PLANNING COMMISSION ROLES AND MEMBERS

West Richland's volunteer Planning Commission by state statute and City Code is responsible for reviewing and proposing amendments to the Comprehensive Plan.  The Planning Commission makes the final recommendations to the City Council on any amendments to the Comprehensive Plan and the Land Use (zoning) Code.  All other City boards and commissions coordinate their Comprehensive Plan and land use activities with the Planning Commission.  The Planning Commission also recommends and reviews studies of geographic sub areas in the City.  The Commission does not review site specific development proposals.

Planning in West Richland is a community responsibility, and one of the Planning Commission's key functions is to obtain public input, through public hearings and other methods, prior to making recommendations.

To carry out these functions, the Planning Commission meets at the City's Council Chambers located in the Mid-Columbia Library on the second and fourth Thursday of the month with the fourth Thursday being on an as needed basis.  All meetings are open to the public and are either study sessions or public hearing.
